How to convert PNG to WebP
- 1
Add the PNG
Drop the file onto the page or choose it from your device.
- 2
Choose quality
WebP is already selected. Use Best quality for graphics with text, Balanced for photos.
- 3
Convert and download
Select Optimize image, check the edges with the slider and download.
Transparency carries over
Unlike JPG, WebP supports transparency, so a logo or product cut-out converted from PNG keeps its transparent background. No background colour is needed.
How much smaller it gets
The saving depends on the content. PNG photos often shrink to a fraction of their size as WebP. Flat graphics and screenshots also shrink, but by less, because PNG already stores them efficiently.
PixMino shows the exact size of the result next to the original, so you can decide whether the switch is worth it.
Keeping sharp edges sharp
Lossy WebP can soften thin lines and small text. For screenshots and interface graphics, choose Best quality and zoom in with the comparison slider before downloading. If edges still matter more than size, keep the PNG.
Supported formats
PixMino opens five formats and saves four. HEIC photos from iPhones are saved as JPG or PNG.

Questions
Will my transparent background be kept?
Yes. WebP supports transparency, so transparent areas stay transparent.
Is the WebP lossless?
PixMino creates lossy WebP, which gives much smaller files. If you need an exact pixel copy, keep the PNG.
Can I use WebP for my website logo?
Yes. All current major browsers display WebP, including transparent ones.
