- 3

Transparency stays
AVIF and PNG both support transparency, so icons, stickers and product cut-outs keep their transparent background. No fill colour is added.
A larger, editable file
AVIF is one of the most compact formats, and PNG is lossless, so the PNG will be several times larger, especially for photos. In return, it opens in practically every image editor and doesn't degrade when saved again.
For graphics with few colours, choose Smallest file: PixMino reduces the number of colours when the image stays visually the same, which can shrink the PNG a lot.
When to pick JPG instead
For a photo without transparency that you just need to share, AVIF to JPG gives a much smaller file.
Supported formats
PixMino opens five formats and saves four. HEIC photos from iPhones are saved as JPG or PNG.

AVIF and HEIC use codecs downloaded the first time you need them; after that they work offline. Animated images are converted as a single frame.
Questions
Will the transparent background be kept?
Yes. PNG supports transparency, so transparent areas stay transparent.
Why is my PNG so big?
PNG stores every pixel exactly. Reduce the dimensions, choose Smallest file for graphics, or use JPG for photos.
Does my browser need AVIF support?
No. If it can't decode AVIF, PixMino loads its own decoder the first time.
